Garowe (HOL) - Puntland's regional government has announced a raft of public health measures in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19.

A disease control committee ordered all educational institutions, including primary schools and universities, in the state to be temporarily shut down.

The committee said that they ordered the closures due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

They also urged all residents to take the COVID-19 vaccine as it becomes available to them. The committee said Puntland is prioritizing front-line health care workers and those at greater risk of infection.

As the Holy month of Ramadan approaches, the committee instructs mosque leaders to ensure that worshippers are socially distancing during prayers and wear a face mask during Friday prayers and evening Taraweeh prayers.

The committee is urging the public to exercise caution and urges all government agencies to follow the guidelines laid forth by the health ministry.
