PM Roble names new cabinet, retains former deputy and key ministers

MOGADISHU (HOL) -  Prime Minister Mohamed Roble has unveiled a new cabinet retaining ministers from the previous cabinet in key positions, moving some to different dockets and bringing in new faces.

The new council is made up of 27 ministers, 17 state ministers and 26 deputies.

Mahdi Guled retains his position as Deputy Prime Minister alongside Abdurahman Beileh (Finance), Maryam Aweys (Ports), Gamal Hassan (Planning), Ahmed Awad (Foreign Affairs) and Fawzia Abikar who was in charged of the Health docket.

Ministers Goddah Barre (Education), Sadik Warfa (Labour), Mohamed Islow Duale (Security) and their information counterpart Mohamed Hayir Maareeye have been left out in the new line-up.

Hassan Hussein Haji was moved from Justice to Defence while Khadija Diriye will now head the Humanitarian Affairs docket from sports swapping places with Hamza Said Hamza.

 Abdirashid Moamed Ahmed has also been spared the changes and will continue heading the Petroleum Ministry.

The Prime Minister will now proceed to the Lower House to seek approval for the new council of ministers.

The new cabinet has its main job cut out - prepare the country for elections and oversee a transition to a new administration.

Parliamentary elections start from November 1 culminating into the election of a new President on February 8.
