Minneapolis (HOL) - Thomas Lane, one of the four police officers charged in the death of George Floyd has posted bail and is currently out ouf jail.
Lane posted a bail of $750,000 and was released from Hennepin County Jail on Wednesday with certain conditions.
It appears that the other defendants in the case remain in jail.
Thomas Lane has been charged with aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter for George Floyd's death, which occurred in police custody on Memorial Day.
Aside from being a police officer, heavily redacted police records show that he was a volunteer tutor at Ka Joog. The non-profit aims to steer Somali-American youth away from drugs and gangs. He worked with at-risk elementary school students with reading and homework.
Lane's attorney Earl Gray has declined to comment on the release but made an impassioned speech for his client's release shortly after his arrest. He pointed out that Lane, a rookie officer, was following the lead of Chauvin, the senior officer. He also stated that Lane expressed concern about Floyd's well-being by twice asking Chauvin if they should roll Floyd over to his side. Chauvin declined and continued to press his knee into George Floyd's neck.
Gray told local media in Minneapolis that he intends to bring a motion to dismiss the charges against Thomas Lane.
