MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somalia has confirmed 45 more COVID-19 cases bringing the national tally to 2,334, the Ministry of Health said Sunday.
Out of the 45 cases, 25 are from Banaadir region which comprises the capital Mogadishu while 17 were recorded in the break-away region of Somaliland. Two cases were recorded in Puntland and one in South West state.
It is not however clear how many tests were carried out as the government has kept that information out of the public view. Majority of today’s cases are male (35) while ten are female.
One person succumbed to the disease bringing the number of fatalities to 83 since the first cases of COVID-19 was recorded on March 16. The number of recoveries has rises to 441 after ten more people were declared free of the disease.
Banaadir region leads with the number of confirmed cases at 1,329 followed by Somaliland with 430 cases.
Puntland has since recorded 196 cases while Jubbaland is fourth with 156 cases. South west has 117 cases, Galmudug 85 while HirShabelle has the least cases at 21.
Out of the national tally, 72% of the affected persons are male while female patients account for 28%.
