A fundraising page set up in memory of teenager Hassan Jama who died earlier this month after being stabbed has raised more than £10,000k.

The Go Fund Me page was started by a family member to raise money towards an act of charity that will provide aid to a long-term cause in Hassan's name.

The 19-year-old died at the scene in the Bartholomew Street in Highfields on Saturday, July 18. Police reported that he died of a single stab wound.

A message from the fundraiser organiser, Filsan Jama said: "As we depart this Dunya [life], the only thing we leave with is our good deeds. Let’s help our brother in Islam increase his good deeds through this generous donation."

More than 600 people have raised £11,141 in two days since the Go Fund Me page was created.

The family and community affected have been supported by local authorities and grassroots community workers while they mourn the death of the 19-year-old.

Community organisation, Somali Development Services (SDS) based in the Highfields area is providing “practical and emotional support” to the Jama’s family.

Jawaahir Daahir, the CEO and founder of SDS previously told LeicestershireLive: "As you can imagine, for the parents and siblings it is a very difficult time.

"We are supporting the family emotionally and practically and will be for a long time to help facilitate communication with the relevant authorities.”
