MOGADISHU (HOL) - Prime Minister Hassan Khaire has appointed an inter-ministerial taskforce to lead preparations for the country’s 60th independence anniversary slated for June and July.According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the ministerial team which will be
chaired by Information Minister Mohamed Mareye brings together the ministers of finance,
defense, youth, education, labour and Justice.
Banaadir Regional Administration governor Omar Filish also sits in the committee which is
mandated with organizing the celebrations in coordination with state governments.
The Independence Day comes on June 26th while the Republic Day is marked in July 1.
The celebrations also coincide with the 20th anniversary since the first formal government was formed in 2000 following the Arte Peace deal in Djibouti.
There will also be sub-committees representing women, youth, religious leaders and
professionals, the statement adds.
The mandate of the committee ends two months after the celebrations.
