MOGADISHU (HOL) - Security has been heightened in Mogadishu today following planned protests against the Al-Shabaab attack last week which killed over 80 people.
Hundreds of residents have gathered at General Kahiye Police Academy to start the demonstrations in the city with the support of Mogadishu city leadership.HOL has learned government officials will also be taking part in the demonstrations in solidarity with city residents in one of the rare public disapproval of Al-Shabaab activities in the country.
A similar protest was witnessed in October 2017 following the truck bombing which claimed over 500 lives.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the December 28 attack which killed 89 people and wounded over 150 others.
