NAIROBI (HOL) - Leaders from Mandera have demanded that wanted Jubbaland Security Minister Abdirashid Janan leaves the country with immediate and also called on the Kenyan government to make its position clear on the matter.Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi, the leaders led by Mandera governor Ali Roba, the leaders said Janan’s stay in Kenya was causing insecurity and a source of disputes with Somalia.
The leaders said they were aware that Janan was staying in hotels within Mandera town with his militias located in the border town.
“I don’t know how our government is benefitting from protecting a wanted criminal. Let the criminal be arrested and handed over or be kicked out of Mandera town for peace to prevail,” Mandera East MP Omar Maalim charged.
The remarks by the North Eastern Kenya MPs come a day after a Bula-Hawa deputy district commissioner Osman Haji threatened to lead Somali troops to invade Kenya unless it surrenders
The developments in the border towns in recent days have once again brought to the fore differences between Kenya and Somalia barely four months after the two countries restored diplomatic relations.
Relations between the two countries nose-dived for a better of 2019 over the ongoing maritime case at the Hague but a meeting between Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and Mohamed Farmaajo in October resulted in normalisation of relations.
