NAIROBI (HOL) - Residents of Mandera county have given the government a 48 hour ultimatum to kicked out fugitive Jubbaland security minister Abdirashid Janan.
The residents who have expressed fear of a possible fighting between Kenya and Somali Forces following recent troops deployments dared to raid Janan’s camp and run him out of the border. Both Kenya and Somalia have reportedly deployed addition troops in their respective borders. Kenya’s military chief Robert Kibochi this week visited Mandera.
Tension has been building up in the border town for several months now since the deadly clash earlier in the year between Janan forces and Federal Government troops in Belet-Hawo which spilled over into Mandera.
Somali Government has accused Kenya of mobilising militias in Mandera to attack Belet-Hawo and other Somali army bases.
Sources in Mandera told HOL more militias had arrived in the town and now station in Belet-Barwaqo area in the outskirts of the town.
Janan’s Forces have been hosted for months now in the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) base within the town.
