A 37-year-old Ottawa man is behind bars and facing a second-degree murder charge and two counts of attempted murder more than two years after a father of two was fatally shot and a woman was wounded in the Greenboro neighbourhood.

Tristan Campbell, who has been wanted since the day after the May 2018 killing of Abdifatah Osman, 31, was arrested Wednesday on Draffin Court.

The joint Ottawa police and OPP repeat offender parole enforcement squad, backed up by city police canine units, made the arrest in connection with the shooting incident on Patola Private.

Abdifatah Osman was known to many in the neighbourhood as “Upti,” Somali for “Uncle.”

He was shot in the head in the backyard of a home following a series of events that began with a dispute between two women.

Osman had been on the street barbecuing when the altercation began, witnesses said.

A witness told this newspaper the women had been in a physical altercation. A man carrying a gun intervened, shooting one of the women in the abdomen, the witness said.

The injured woman fled into her backyard and Osman reportedly followed her. It was there that the gunman allegedly fired a round of bullets, hitting Osman in the head.

The 23-year-old woman received injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Campbell was scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
