A longtime resident of Ottawa, Kayse was one of the founders at Surad Soccer Club, a program aimed at developing the advancement of youth soccer in Ottawa's Somali community. It was founded in 2012 and grew to a football club that had several teams competing from U6 to U14. In 2016, the U15 team were crowned winners of Ottawa Gloucester International Soccer Tournament, just four years after it's founding.

Hassan's work was recognized by the community in March 2016 when the club was awarded the 'Healthy Kids Award' for encouraging youth involvement in sports.

Kayse will be fondly remembered in the Ottawa community as a leader who passed on his passion for sports and a healthy lifestyle to the kids that he mentored.

He is survived by his wife and three children.
