Death toll rises to 89 as 12 still missing following Ex-Control bomb attack

MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somali government has revealed 12 people are still missing following a deadly truck bombing in the outskirts of the capital Mogadishu.

The Emergency Response and Coordination Committee formed by Prime Minister Hassan Khaire said in its latest report Monday morning the number of those missing following the Ex-Control truck bombing stands at 12 after 12 were found.

Initially, 24 people were missing but the Committee said it had located 12 and among them 5 dead while six were not affected and are in good health. One was injured.

Following the new updates, the official number of the dead now stands at 83.

One woman who was airlifted to Turkey Sunday succumbed to injuries.

At least 78 people perished on the spot Saturday after a truck loaded with explosives went burst at a checkpoint in Ex-Control area leaving death and destruction in its wake.

Mogadishu Mayo Omar Filish told journalists the truck was heading to the city but was blocked by security forces.

According to official government figures from hospitals Sunday 111 people were admitted to various hospitals while 33 others were set for referrals as they required specialized treatment. The Turkish government airlifted 16 of the injured to four hospitals in Ankara.
