MOGADISHU (HOL) - A Turkish construction worker was injured Wednesday afternoon after his vehicle ran into an IED in the outkirts of Mogadishu.
The official from a company constructing the Qatari funded Mogadishu-Afgooye road survived the attack and was rushed to a city hospital, sources told HOL.
According to residents in Geresbaley area some 10 kilometres outside the capital Mogadishu, the pickup truck hit an explosive improvised device (IED) supposedly planted on the road extensively damaging it.The official was reportedly inspecting the ongoing construction of the road.
Al-Shabaab militants have on several occasions threatened workers on the road project to cease operations.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
