Ambassador Ali Sharif Ahmed presented his credentials to president Donald Trump

The new Somalia Ambassador to the United States Ali Sharif Ahmed presented his credentials to the US president Donald Trump in the Oval Office of the White House on September 16, 2019 and formally assumed duty as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

During the White House Credential ceremony, Ambassador Ahmed conveyed to the president on Somalia’s continued commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries. Accompanied by the Somali Embassy staff members, Ambassador Ahmed also informed the president about the government’s plans for all areas and the recent progress that the Federal Government Somalia has made.


H.E Ali Sharif Ahmed was appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia in May 2019. During his tenure as a career diplomat, Ambassador Ahmed also served as the Somali Ambassador to Ethiopia and France respectively. He also served as the Permanent Representative of Somalia to the African Union and UNECA.

Prior to his diplomatic service, Ambassador Ahmed was the senior policy advisor to the Office of the President, in this capacity, he was responsible for overall policy and led peace building and reconciliation efforts on behalf of the government of Somalia.

In addition to his public sector experience, Ambassador Ahmed worked as a business executive, entrepreneur and consultant for firms with global operations. Ambassador Ahmed holds a master’s degree in Geopolitics and Grand Strategy from the University of Sussex and bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from London Metropolitan University.
