MOGADISHU (HOL) - The U.S is bolstering its security at its military base in Somalia following an attack by the militant group Al-Shabaab late last month.

According to a story carried by the Indian Ocean Newsletter, the U.S army is in the process of installing internet systems to link up Baledogle base in Lower Shabelle region with Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti.

The publication notes the U.S army intends to sub contract the project to ‘an external telecommunications operator with the capacity to cater rapidly to its requirements.’

Al-Shabaab launched an attack at Baledogle base in September 30 but were repulsed by a united front of U.S Navy seals and Somali Special Forces headquartered in the base.

One Navy Seal was injured according to the U.S army.

The U.S based magazine Foreign Policy reported in January the U.S was working on building access route connecting Baledogle and Cam Lemonnier to ease movement of supplies between the two bases.

The Defense Department also announced this year it was contracting the upgrade of the base at a cost of $12 million.
