Speaking during a public forum in the ongoing Paris Peace Forum in Paris, Khaire said it was not ‘realistic’ to put all countries under one spectrum and expect them to meet the SDGS in the same pace.

“How relevant are they (SDGs) for nations which have been in difficult situations for close to 30 years,” the PM posed.

The PM called for a change of mindset to understand the context of countries especially those rebuilding after many years of difficulties.

“I the context of where I stand and in where my country is today, reemerging, we need to change the whole mindset or how we’ve seen the world as one global world. There are nations which have different needs with investment that’s different from others,” Khaire.

The PM also challenged donors to channel their investments and support through the government to enhance its legitimacy.

“If you ask them how much have you invested to eradicate problems in Somalia working directly with the government of Somalia, they will tell you moist of them none or they work through abc,” the PM noted. “Any assistance that’s given to any nation that doesn’t provide legitimacy to the government, it will never be sufficient and it’s going to be temporary,”

World countries agreed on a new set of development goals dubbed Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 intended to be achieved by 2030.

The goals, 17 in total include ending poverty and hunger, good health and wellbeing, quality education and clean water and sanitation among others.
