Mogadishu (HOL) - President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo is expected to open the fifth session of the Federal Parliament today.
Article 90 of the Constitution requires the President to address the opening of each new session of Parliament.
“The President will open the House of the People of the Federal Parliament, Hold an annual session with the House of the People of the Federal Parliament, Address the House of the People of the Federal Parliament at any other time,” the constitution articulates.
Reports say the President will open a joint sitting of the both the Upper and Lower Houses at General Kahiye Police Academy in Mogadishu.
Hundreds of security forces intensified their presence around the Academy increasing the number of checkpoints as they inspect vehicles heading to the compound.
The lawmakers have been on recess since January when houses finished their four-month-long Houses Business.
