MOGADISHU (HOL) - Somali Police have been accused of disrupting a seminar on youth participation in civic education organized by Wadajir party in Mogadishu.

The seminar that was to take place at Maka Al- Mukaramma Hotel failed to take place after dozens of armed police officers were deployed at the premises.

In a Facebook post, the chairperson of the party, Abdirahman Abdishakur has blamed Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo for blocking the meeting.

"A directive from the office of Somali President has [been used to] stopped a seminar on political weariness for the member of Wadajir Party," Abdishakur said.

He described the move as a sorrowful act, saying the government uses the police for intimidation rather than to maintain law and order.

Abdishakur returned to the country from neighbouring Kenya mid last month after six months of self-exile.

Late 2017, Somali security forces had raided his residential house in Mogadishu and arrested him for alleged treason.

Abdishakur, a former minister has been a critic since early 2017 after President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo took over.
