Four Shabaab suspects charged for murder of close to 200 people in Somalia

MOGADISHU (HOL) - Four suspects among them a former female government employee believed to be members of Al-Shabaab were Thursday charged in a military court in Mogadishu for murder of close to 200 people since 2010.

According to the prosecution, the four- Mohamed Haji Ahmed aka Ilkase, Salim Said Mohamed
alias Salmaan, Ahmed Mohamed Hashim aka Arab and Fadumo Hussein Ali (Faduma Kornel)
committed or coordinated the commission of offenses leading to the death of 180 people.

Military prosecutor General Abdullahi Bulle Kamey told the court Ilkase, the ring leader is a
member of Amniyat, which is Al-Shabaab’s military and intelligence division.

Among other charges, Ilkase is accused of killing his uncle Col. Ismael Ahmed Osman aka Markeyelow on August 28, 2010 but was later released after his father who was a Somali army general pledged
responsibility for his acquittal.

Ilkase killed two other army generals and a deputy attorney, the court heard.

The second defendant, Salman, was accused of hurling grenades to Al-Shabaab targets and belonging to the out-lawed group.
Meanwhile the court charged Arab for financing the group’s activities and transport of assassins
while the fourth suspect- Fadumo Kornel a female government employee was responsible for
directing assassinations and identifying victims.
