Somali elite forces recapture Aw-Dhegle town

Somali elite forces have recaptured the strategic town of Aw Dhegle in the southern region from extremist group al-Shabaab militants.

In a covert operation, Danab soldiers have this morning managed to take over the control of the town which was under the militants in recent years.

Speaking to media, Lower Shabelle administration officials confirmed the seizure of the town saying the forces dislodged Al-Shabaab fighters from the town which lies 70 km south of Mogadishu.

Aw-Dhegle town, situated in the Lower Shabelle region of Somalia, is one of the strategic objectives which were earmarked for liberation by Somali forces.

The intensified tactical operations on the frontline have been buoyed by the return to normalcy in some liberated areas, especially in southern Somalia.

The ongoing military operation in the Lower Shabelle received commendation from the public and Somalia's international partners with the Somali forces encouraged to sustain the fight against the militants.

Al-Shabaab which lost control of the capital Mogadishu in August 2011 is still in control of remote areas in southern Somalia and capable of conducting attacks.
