Mogadishu (HOL) - A federal lawmaker is in critical condition on Saturday night after suffering serious injuries in a car bomb attack in Mogadishu.
Mohamed Mursal Borow, a federal MP from Baidoa, was rushed to Digfer/Erdogan hospital after an explosive device fitted to his car exploded near the national theatre. His driver was killed in the attack.
Although no arrests have been made, the modus operandi of the attack seems to bear the hallmarks of the militant insurgency group Al-Shabaab who regularly launches attacks against government officials and installations. The group has not claimed responsibility for this attack.
The attack comes on the heels of a warning by Hirshabelle State President, Mohamed Abdi Ware who warned politicians to take extra care of their personal safety because the federal government is incapable of guaranteeing their security.
