Mogadishu, August 15, 2018 – The Mogadishu Book Fair 2018 (MBF2018) is proud to announce a stellar line up of national and international authors starting today, August 15, at Sahal Terminal on Airport Road and ending on the 17th of August. It will run every day from 9 am to 5:30 pm. Each year, the book fair is organized around a particular theme. This year, the theme is “Literature & Expression in Education” and will explore the role of literature in education of the individual citizen and the nation overall.
MBF2018 international guests include the likes of Abdi Latif Ega, author of the novel ‘Guban’ – currently finishing his new novel ‘Musa’ - and a former Teaching Fellow/Scholar at Columbia University in New York; Ahmed I. Yusuf, author of the new book ‘The Lion’s Binding Oath’ from Minneapolis, MN; Professor Paul D. Williams of George Washington University and author of the new book ‘Fighting for Peace in Somalia; a History and Analysis of the African Union Mission, 2007 – 2017’ and Dr. Idil Osman of SOAS university in London and author of ‘Media, Diaspora & The Somali Conflict’. Local guests include Yasmeen Mohamud, author of ‘Nomad Diaries’ from Garowe; Dr. Ali A. Abubakar, founder and former president of Mogadishu University; Fardousa Jama, cultural specialist and storyteller as well as a host of youth writers from throughout Somalia.
The MBF2018 also features panel discussions, film screenings, reading tent for children and traditional performances as well as workshops on a variety of subjects. The Mogadishu Book Fair is sponsored by USAID with special thanks to Dahabshil Group, Hormuud Telecom and Turkish Airlines.
