Mogadishu (HOL) - Dozens of MPs on Tuesday night declared the
controversial motion against Lower House Speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari
unconstitutional as the time set for its submission has passed.
Last
week, Upper House Mediating Committee set 28th March for the debate of
the motion in a bid ease the escalating political row in the country.
In
a Joint statement, Pro-Jawari lawmakers called on the Speaker to resume
the work saying he was the legitimate leader of the House as the
proposition failed to meet the deadline.
"In accordance with
article 4 of chapter 9 of the House Standing Order, the motion against
the speaker has collapsed (failed) as it was not tabled on time,
therefore, the speaker, Mohamed Osman Jawari should officially resume
his duties of leading the House business," reads the statement.
The
MPs pointed fingers of blame at Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheire,
accusing him of spearheading the political crisis that crippled the
House business.
Finally, the statement warned that PM and
President Farmajo would take the responsibility, should the national
institutions collapsed due to the escalating political tension.
The move comes amid the ongoing political row has created a vacuum between the leadership of the House.
On
Sunday, the 1st deputy Speaker, Abdiweli Sheikh Mudey announced the
motion against the speaker will be tabled on 31st of March.
The
following day, the speaker was at the podium to dismiss the
announcement by Mudey, spilling out the rift between House leadership to
the public.
The fate of the motion is yet unclear as the House members were divided into two opposing factions
