Mogadishu (HOL) - The General Secretary of Somalia’s National Chamber of Commerce, Shafi Rabi Kahin, was reportedly detained by officers at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport on Tuesday as he flew in from Brussels.A security official at the airport who is not authorized to speak to the media has told HOL that questioned on how he obtained the passport.
Kahin, who also serves as the chairman of Jubbaland’s Chamber of Commerce was allegedly interrogated and then apprehended by Somali security forces. The reason for his arrest is still unknown but sources say that the Diplomatic Passport that he was traveling with was confiscated by authorities.
The Minister of Civil Aviation, Mohamed Abdullahi Salad Omar and local businessmen have said that they tried to intervene in the arrest and have called for his release.
There has been no statement by the airport authorities or city officials on the arrest of the chairman.
