Mogadishu (HOL) - Abdullahi Farah Wehliye has been elected as a member of Lower House following a by-election held in Dhusamareeb.According to the electoral body officials, 3 votes were spoilt.
Somali National Independent Electoral Commission has held the election of the Parliamentary seat vacated by late Botan Isa Alin who died in Mogadishu months after he resumed the office.
Wehliye, who is the current State Minister of Interior and Federalism of Somalia's Federal Government garnered 28 out of the possible 51 votes to win the seat as his two opponents Mohamed Elmi and Abdullahi Farah got 17 and 3 votes respectively.
National Independent Electoral Commission chairperson Halima Yarey who announced the result said the voting was free and fair.
“The voting was free and fair. The environment was satisfactory and the voters had an ample time to vote,” said Yarey.
The Process was observed by officials from Galmudug State and Federal Government representatives.
The today's voting was the first be held in Dhusamareb town since the inception of Galmudug State formed in 2014.
Wehliye was appointed the State Minister for Interior by Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire.
