28-year-old Kenyan man wins $2 million football jackpot

A Kenyan gambler who landed a $2million (£1.6m) jackpot after correctly calling 17 football matches looks to be hanging up his bookies pen.

Samuel Abisai placed about $2 on a pair of bets, according to bookmakers SportPesa.

He won what is reportedly one of the biggest ever payouts ever seen in Kenya, but the 28-year-old now doubts he will bet again.

Instead, he will plan to give some of his winnings to good causes, including his local football team in Kenya's western region of Kakamega.

The $2million payout is an eye-watering amount of cash in a country where the average wage of a civil servant is about $150 per month.

I think I am not going to bet again," Mr Abisai said after the firm's boss Ronald Karauri picked him up in a stretch limousine to take him to Nairobi.

Mr Abisai a father to one daughter and has not yet decided if he will quit his job at a Chinese company.

He did confirm that he is now looking to buy a car and invest in property.

Gambling is quickly growing in popularity in Africa, with Kenya said to have have more young punters that any other nation in the continent.
