Puntland security forces seize State Parliament building over lack of pay

Garowe (HOL) - Frustrated soldiers from the Puntland Security Forces, fed up over unpaid wages seized the state’s parliament building on Sunday.

The armed soldiers cordoned off the roads and side streets leading to Parliament, the mutiny left at least 15 MPs trapped inside the State Parliament house.

Residents report seeing other government soldiers close to other administration buildings in Garowe.

The soldiers complain of widespread government neglect towards the security forces. They haven’t been paid in over 7 months, and they haven’t been given medical treatment for their injuries sustained during battle. Soldiers also say that families of soldiers killed are not given any type of support from the government.

Sources say the forces were spearheaded by Gen Jimcale, a respected veteran who lead the fighting against Galmudug.

Punt land security forces were on the frontline in the Puntland Administration’s offensive to root out Al Shabaab as well as the fight against Galmudug forces for control of strategic buildings in Galway.

It is widely reported that communication channels between soldiers are in contact with senior members of the Puntland administration are open.
