MP narrowly escapes bomb attack in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (HOL) - A Somali lawmaker narrowly survived an evening land mine attack in the capital on Friday.

Witnesses say that a land mine exploded in Hodan district at around 8pm just after a vehicle carrying MP Mohamed Abukate passed by. Brief gunfire was heard just after the land mine detonated.

A senior police officer, Mohamed Dahir who was at the scene confirmed the witness account. He added that there were no casualties in the attack but two of the MP’s bodyguards were slightly injured.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the attack but Al-Shabaab has been behind a number of frequent attacks against government officials .
