A Kenya Defence Forces soldier killed during the El Adde attack in Somalia on January 15 was buried on Thursday at Kwachocha in Malindi town, Kilifi county.

Private Amani Lwembe, 26, was among those murdered by al Shabaab insurgents in one of the major attacks targeted at African Union Mission to Somalia troops.

His body arrived in the morning in a KDF helicopter at the Malindi Airport and was buried on the same day.

Lwembe was given a Christian send-off in a ceremony led by KDF senior commanders.

His father Rophus Nzai and mother Margaret Tunje could not hold back tears as they tried to come to terms with losing a loved one.

They were consoled by friends and relatives who jammed the homestead to give the young soldier a heroic send-off.

Lwembe was described as a God-fearing, kind and generous person.

Speaking of behalf of Army commander Lt Gen Leonard Ngondi, Maj Hinzano Mumbo said KDF is mourning with the families of the brave soldiers killed in Somalia.

He urged residents to be on high alert and report any information that may help in the war on terror.

Lwembe came from the same area where four terrorists were gunned down by police last month.

Police recovered a pistol, five hand grenades and maps that showed areas targeted for attacks.

Those shot dead included Suleiman Awadh, on whose head police had put a Sh2 million bounty.

The others were Abdalla Marumu, Mohamed Abubakar and Muumin Abdalla.

They were all from the Coast and were described as bloodthirsty, armed and dangerous.
