Sport Day events for orphans across world

Thousands of orphans from Kosovo, Palestine, Somalia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Burkina Faso, Niger, Tunisia and Mauritania participated in National Sport Day celebrations organised by Qatar Charity’s  (QC) offices all over the world.

The events were held in coordination with Qatari embassies in the countries.

More than 90,000 orphans sponsored by QC all over the world receive comprehensive care.

With over 5,000 sponsored orphans in the Gaza Strip, QC office there organised a football championship for orphan students. Ibrahim Hamdouna attended the event as representative of the Qatari embassy.

Four schools for orphans participated in the championship and expressed excitement and happiness for being part of the tournament, especially that children in Gaza do not get to enjoy life that much.

QC offers relief and developmental aid to the Palestinian orphans it sponsors in Gaza.

More than 150 sponsored orphans in Kosovo participated in activities, including skiing, bowling, billiards, weightlifting and other games. QC sponsors over 1,500 orphan children in Kosovo and offers them all types of care; it sponsors them financially and organises health, entertaining, educational and sport activities for them.

In Mogadishu, QC organised an event supervised by the Qatari embassy. Several people from the embassy, QC and the Red Crescent attended. The children enjoyed their time and the winners were awarded by Qatari Chargé d’Affaires Hassan bin Hamza.

In cooperation with Somalia Olympic Committee, QC held a sport competition between the sponsored orphans in the country.

Mohammed Abdullah Hassan Nouh, Somalia’s Minister of Sports and Youth; Ismail Mu’lem Abdi Juri, Deputy to the Capital’s Mayor; Doran Ahmed Farih, Secretary-General, Somalia Olympic Committee, and other officials participated, along with over 500 children.

Under the supervision and auspices of Mohammed Al Khater, Qatari Ambassador to Indonesia, embassy staff organised National Sport Day for orphan children in Jakarta sponsored by QC.

QC also held a sport festival under the auspices of the ambassador. Some 500 orphans from across the country attended, along with officials from the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs and Ministry of Religions. A football championship spread the spirit of competition and the winning team was awarded.

In the stadium of Niamey, capital of Niger, QC’s office organised a sport event for some 400 orphans the charity sponsors from Niamey’s five districts.

The chief of the Second Municipality of the Capital, the social care director, a representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, mothers of orphan children and representatives of local organisations were present.

Events included sports and games and distribution of food and refreshments. The winners of all games were awarded.

QC’s sponsored orphans in Mauritania also participated in activities held under the supervision of the Qatari embassy.
