The government owned news agency SONNA reported the arrest on its news site yesterday while interviewing the commander of the Somali armed forces, General Ali Bashi Haji Mohamed.
The army general reiterated that the commandos did the operation in both north and south of Galkayo town and that it was successful.
Al Shabaab regularly deploys suicide bombers and roadside IEDs as a part of their strategy to topple Somalia's internationally backed government.
Al-Shabaab has yet to publicly comment on the operation. There are no independent reports confirming the incident.
Danab, which means lightning in Somali, is a US trained commando unit that conducted the raid. Members of the group obscure their face from the public because they regularly perform anti-terror operations.
According to military officials and witnesses on the ground, the operation is still ongoing as they comb through Al Shabaab hideouts.
