The Ethiopian defense forces under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) are reported to be offering military training to thousands of Somali youth volunteers who will be joining the fight against Al Shabaab, APA can report on Friday.
The voluntary youth are being trained at an army training center near the couth-west Somali town of Baidowa.
“Previously, the town was under the control of Al Shabaab. It was then that the terrorist group killed my father and my brother in front of me. I was also raped in front of my husband. Such conditions drove me to join the training,” one of the female trainees told the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation.
“I am getting a lot from the training. The trainers have enabled us to be best fighters. That is how I can be a part of the anti-Al Shabaab mission,” the other male trainee said
Apart from the south-west Somalia area, the training is being given in about five other regions of the country, APA has learnt.
Head of the training Lieutenant Colonel Teshale Geda said Al Shabaab is now on the run in different directions because of the massive attack opened by the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), “Because of this it is a bit difficult to completely wipe out this dispersed group.
That is why we needed to train the Somali youth militia that are capable of wiping out the terrorist group.”
