Senior Government Officials Participate in the Marine High School Celebrations

A well organized ceremony of the first year of education at the Marine High School was held at the school premises in Lido Beach, Mogadishu. The Marine High School is one of the four programs of the Marine and Fisheries Institute which is a joint project of Hasene Relief Somalia and City University of Mogadishu.

The Mogadishu Marine High School opened its doors in September 2014 with 50 students from all regions of the country. These students enjoy a full scholarship that covers the cost of education, food and residence at the premises of the Institute at Lido Beach.

The dignitaries who graced the event include the Somali Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Mr. Mohamed Omar Emoy, Minister of State for Education and Higher Learning Mr. Abdullahi Bile Nur, Director General of the Presidency Mr. Ali Omar, District Commissioner for the Abdiaziz District of Banadir Region, Mr. Osman Muhuyadin Ali, President of Hasene Relief Somalia, Mr. Mesud Gulbihar, Executive Vice President of City Unviersity, Mr. Abdulkareem Jama and many other dignitaries graced this occasion of it's kind.

The District Commissioner Mr. Osman Muhuyadin Ali who addressed the congregation explained how delighted and proud he is to have the Institute in his District and promised to offer all help within his power. Director of the Presidency delivered the greetings and encouragement of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who was scheduled to attend the event but could not due to other official commitments. Mr. Nur encouraged the expansion of Marine Education and the need for more students to study the resources in the Somali long coast. Mr. Emoy on the other hand highlighted the abundance of fish in Somali waters and the need to eradicate hunger in Somalia through the development of robust fishery programs based on knowledge.

The speakers praised the professional and generous efforts at the institute that is geared towards providing quality marine education to the young generation. They encouraged the parents and students to take full advantage of the opportunity provided to them which many other students do not have.

Finally, they praised Hasene Relief Somalia and City University for providing such a wonderful and timely institute in this important area of need for the Somali nation and economy.
