Community members are invited to celebrate Somali culture, food and art at the 55th Somali Independence Day Festival in Minneapolis.

Organizers say the festival commemorates Somali Independence Day while also promoting diversity. It will stretch out across three blocks of Lake Street next to the largest Somali Mall in Minnesota.

The event includes live music, art galleries, live animals and authentic Somali food. It’s organized by Ka Joog, a nonprofit that works to enrich the lives of Somali-American youth through arts and education.

The event takes place from 1-8 p.m. Saturday, June 13, on West Lake Street between Blaisdell Avenue and Grand Avenue.
