Eleven Administration Police officers were on Wednesday injured, three of them seriously, after a vehicle they were travelling in lost control and rolled over in Rhamu, Mandera County.

The officers were heading to River Daua, where it had been reported that a woman had been killed in fresh attacks between two warring clans.

Their driver is said to have lost control of the vehicle as he tried to negotiate a sharp corner.

Mandera County Commissioner Alex Nkoyo confirmed the incident, saying the officers were being accompanied to the scene by a local chief, a school headmaster and two other civilians.

Mr Nkoyo said one of the seriously injured officers suffered a broken arm, the other a broken hip while the third sustained back injuries.

“Nine others suffered minor injuries and have been treated and discharged and they are in stable condition,” said Mr Nkoyo.

Mandera County Referral Hospital Manager Mohamed Abdille said one of the officers who also sustained head injuries would be transferred to Nairobi for specialised treatment.

Clan clashes have rocked Mandera County, especially between the Garre and the Degodia.

Cases of clashes between the Murule and Marhani clans on the Kenya–Somalia border have also been reported in the past.
