MOGADISHU (HOL) ---- A suspected US drone hit bases belong to the Al-Qaeda-linked militant group in southern Somalia, the latest attack targeting the group which carried out high profile deadly attacks in and outside Somalia.
Residents in Jilib Marka, a village in Lower Shabelle region reported bangs and explosions as a drone fired missiles onto an army base for Al-Shabab on Monday.
The drone has also struck a checkpoint for the group in the town.
There was no immediate claim for the responsibility of the attack, however, US often carries out deadly attack air raids against Al-Shabab.
Last year, a US drone has killed Ahmed Abdi Godane, the leader of Al-Shabab which is fighting Somalia's government and the African Union forces.
