The Council on American-Islamic Relations is seeking an investigation into a recent "apparent firebombing" of a Tracy-area Mosque, the organization said.

The Sacramento Valley chapter of CAIR released a statement stating that the Tracy Islamic Center was the subject of a hate crime after leaders found fire damage on a side door Dec. 26 from presumably a "Molotov cocktail."

"The recent spike in hate incidents targeting mosques nationwide is unprecedented and should be of concern to all Americans," CAIR-SV Executive Director Basim Elkarra said in the statement. "We urge law enforcement authorities to investigate this incident as a hate crime and to bring the perpetrators to justice."

The Tracy attack comes one day after a CAIR-Houston called for an investigation into a two-alarm mosque fire that officials called "suspicious."
