NAIROBI (HOL)---Somalia's government has replaced one of the country's longest serving ambassadors in a small diplomatic reshuffle for the horn of Africa nation which is trying to build strong ties with the international community.
Somalia's foreign minister Abdisalam Hadiye has replaced Mohamed Ali Americo, the Kenya ambassador, replacing him with Jamal Hassan. Mr. Americo was currently campaigning for the Mogadishu mayor's portfolio,
even though the sitting mayor is still in office.
The new foreign minister's abrupt sacking of Americo is seen as a new move aimed at bringing fresh faces into the diplomatic circle.
Political analysts say the government has made major inroads in the foreign service, signing major deals with partners and managing to take Somalia's name across international forums.
In the new reshuffle, Somalia's foreign minister named two ambassadors for South Africa and the United Nations. The government also appointed two more ambassadors for undisclosed positions.
