The troops liberated the Island of Kudhaa, 45km south west of Kismayu. Kudhaa has been one of the main depots for the illicit charcoal exports that finance the insurgents' activities.
Interim Jubaba Administration's spokesman Abdinasser Seeraar yesterday said the operation was part of the interim government's strategy to push al Shabaab out of all areas. "The operation coincides with IJA's greater military liberation campaign," he said.
