The Garissa government has commissioned the building of a modern 100-bed maternity wing and 12-body capacity morgue at the Garissa Referral Hospital.The project will cost about Sh130 million.While commissioning the two projects yesterday, Governor Nathif Jama said the two facilities will improve services at the hospital.
He said maternity facilities in the hospital have been stretched since the inception of the free maternity programme.Jama said the mortuary will serve Garissa residents and the whole of northern Kenya.
The governor also launched two projects in worth Sh800 million for Garissa town.
He unveiled a 1MW generator which will assist in improving water distribution in the town, and also launched the repair of the Garissa-Kismayu road that leads to Wajir, Mandera and Somalia.
“We have now put in place long term solution to overcome the perennial water problems in this county. The town had outgrown the existing infrastructure and this new generator will allow us to reach all residents,” Jama said.
