The federal government of Somalia praised the role that Ethiopian forces are playing in the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and asked that Ethiopian troops to help safe guard the international aid agencies and foreign diplomatic missions in the country.

The request was made by the state minister for foreign affairs Buri’ Mohamed Hamza in a lengthy meeting with Ethiopian ambassador to Somalia Mr. Wondimu Asaminew.

During the meeting which took place at the Ethiopian embassy in Mogadishu on Saturday both sides raised important issues including the strengthening of the already bilateral relations between the two countries and as well as regional security and the fight against terrorism.

According to a press statement from the foreign ministry of Somalia, the state minister thanked Ethiopian government for hosting a number of Somali reconciliation conferences in its country and as well as the brotherly welcome they extended to tens of thousands of Somali refugees who were given secure places to live in Ethiopia.

The statement noted that the state minister demanded Ethiopian forces of AMISOM to help the delivery of humanitarian assistances to the needy people who are living in the formerly Al Shabab-held regions in the country.

However, the Ethiopian ambassador to Somalia Mr. Wondimu Asaminew for his part said that Addis Ababa government was ready to assist Somalia in all needs, pledging that Ethiopia will develop continuous relations and co-operations with Somalia.
