Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) -- More than 20 people have been killed and dozens more wounded in an overnight deadly fighting near the border between Somalia and Ethiopia.
Artilleries and heavy machineguns have been used in the fighting which lasted for several hours over night on Tuesday.
Initial reports indicate that the death toll may be higher than expected, as the fighting was described as ‘the heaviest’ reported in the region in recent weeks.
Al Shabab militants and the police from Somali regional state in Ethiopia several times in the past fought in areas along the border.
Either Al Shabab militants or authorities of the Somali autonomy in Ethiopia were not yet available for comment.
But residents said that both sides were regrouping and there was a fear that the fighting might have renewed at any time possible.
