London, UK (HOL) -- Members from the Somali community in London have for the first time announced their plans to help develop Mogadishu Fire Service which currently has only three firefighter trucks.

The community leaders made the pledge during a lengthy meeting with the director of Mogadishu Fire and emergence services Abdullahi Mohamed Saney in Edmonton Green, north of London on Sunday evening.

The participants started exchange of ideas and suggestions on how to support and equip Mogadishu Fire and emergence services.

“We have been aware of the good job you are doing and we can say that you (Mr Saney) and your group are doing an unprecedented service for the Somali people—we will draw programs relating to what role we can play” Mahmoud Ismail Dabayare told the meeting.

Mohamed Ahmed Deysane added that the fire and emergence services came on the right time that Somali people had much needs for it and thanked Mr Saney for his successful endeavours to re-organize the programme.

“On behalf of the other members of the community who are not here with us at the moment, we promise that we will do our utmost to help the continuation of the important services you are doing for our people” added Mohamed Faaqid, before handing over the microphone to the founder and the director of Mogadishu Fire and Emergence Service Mr. Abdullahi Mohamed Saney.

Mr Saney first briefed the community members on how they work, what they do and the obstacles they have been facing since the launch of the service nearly 18 months ago.

“We have only three fire engines in a city of three million people, that means we are serving one fire engine for one million people and you can understand how much need is there” Mr Saney said.

“Roadblocks are also major obstacle facing our service as the soldiers are not paying much attention to ambulance and fire truck Siren. There are incidents where Patients have died while standing at roadblocks. But in recent months things are improving" said Mr. Saney

" For 25 years people didn’t have where to call when there is a danger of fire or someone is bleeding, but now the situation has changed and they can call 555 and then our emergence department will immediately respond" he added.

Mr. Saney said the fire and emergence services is now operating only in the capital, but in the near future we are planning to expand tments in the regions across the country.
