Melbourne electronic artist Moses Iten discovered the Dur-Dur Band from 1980s Somalia via the New York DJ blog, Awesome Tapes From Africa.
Finding main man Abdi Mohamed Abdi living in exile in Melbourne offered an unexpected opportunity.
Iten's Cumbia Cosmonauts have been working with Abdi's Somali Peace Band for a year under Multicultural Arts Victoria's ReMastered Myths program, due to culminate in concert at Iwaki Auditorium on June 18.
The Emerge Festival centrepiece also showcases fresh collaborations with Persian group the Mehr Ensemble and the Sikh and Muslim Common Ground Collective.
