A man was arrested in Lunga Lunga for smuggling illegal weapons. Abdillahi Edin Adano was seized with two pistols and 20 rounds of ammunition that he intended to sell.
Police laid a trap after getting tips from the public that the suspect had landed in Eastleigh with the cache. The seized man allegedly planned to sell the guns in Lunga Lunga.
Last year, six firearms and several rounds of ammunitions were recovered from the same slums where four suspects were arrested and charged for dealing in illegal firearms.
On January 25, Adano from Adda village in Moyale was seized moments after arriving in the slums.
“We ambushed a terminus where he (Adano) was to alight as he came from Eastleigh and arrested him,” said Lunga Lunga Administration Police commander Alphonse Mulinge. The AP officers found the weapons – an Ekol and Tuna pistols hidden in the bag the suspect was carrying.
According to Mulinge, both firearms were manufactured in Turkey. Mulinge urged residents to continue volunteering such useful information.
The officer said they suspect the man has been sneaking firearms into the country. Such smuggled weapons end up into the hands of criminals in and around the city.
The AP boss quelled fears saying that: “ Investigations are going on to get to the root of the matter.”
