SSPA delegate attends Finnish Sports Gala

The president of Somali Sports Press Association, Abdiaziz Godah Barre has been one of the AIPS family members invited to attend the Finish Sports Gala, that was held in the Finnish Captal Helsinki over night on Tuesday, during which the Somali Sports Press Association delegate was given a high profile reception by Mr.Heikki Miettinen, the President of the Finnish Sports Writers Association.

During the sports Gala, the SSPA president held a brief meeting with the president of the Finnish Sports Writers Association Mr. Heikki Miettinen, as both sides discussed issues relating to the boosting of the bilateral cooperation between the SSPA and the Finnish Sports writers Association.

“We also discussed on how our Finnish colleagues might have helped the SSPA in terms of the enhancement of the knowledge and the experience of SSPA members and the entire sports writers across the country—we are very happy with the outcome of our brief meeting” the SSPA president said.

“I am very grateful to the president of Finnish Sports Writers Association Mr. Heikki Miettinen for the huge welcome and his interest to help the Somali Sports Press Association” the SSPA president said in the Statement on Wednesday.

This was the first time that Somalia was invited to attend the Finnish Sports Gala, a move that is expected to pave the way for more cooperation between the SSPA and the Finnish Sports Writers Association.

The most high profile officials who attended Tuesday’s Finnish Sports Gala include: AIPS vice president Laima Janusonyte Esteninhoff, former Finnish President Tarja Halonen, Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen, the Finnish Sports Minister Paavo Arhinmäki and the minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade of Finland Alexander Stubb.

At the end, the Finnish Athlete of the year Tero Pitkämäki, has been awarded in front of a big auditing and high profile journalists from across the world, mostly AIPS family members.
