The Somali embassy in South Sudan is on the process of evacuating the rest of its citizens from the escalating wars in the country from where over 300 Somali nationals were evacuated so far.

The Somali diplomatic mission in South Sudan has started the registration process of Somali nationals in the country, as part of the federal government’s efforts to airlift the rest of its citizens from the country where government forces and rebels loyal to former vice president have been fighting for the past several weeks.

So many Somalis have been in long queues in and outside the Somali embassy compound in the capital Juba from where they will be flown in the next 48 hours according to the Somali diplomatic mission in Juba.

“Somali government is committed to evacuating its citizens from here and we expect a large passenger plane which will take at least 131 people, while the rest will follow soon” Somali ambassador to South Sudan Abdirahman Nur Mohamed (Dinari) told a mob of Somalis who gathered at the embassy building on Wednesday.

“We have also started another process of booking the amount of Somali riches here in South Sudan---the protection of our people’s properties is also a great responsibility we have embraced” Ambassador Dinari told a gathering of Somali nationals at the embassy on Wednesday.

The ambassador noted that some riches belonging to Somali merchants including cars, commodities and other businesses have so far been looted in some cities in the country.

This is the first time in more than 2 decades that Somali people have felt they have a ‘government’ which cares about the safety of its nationals abroad particularly in the war-ravaged Africa continent.
