The commissioner of Maagaay village outside the region’s provincial capital of Jowhar Mr. Mahmoud Muhumed Abbaas said that for the past 48 hours the number of people infected with the disease has increased rapidly.
“More than 40 people have been hospitalised since the outbreak of the disease this week” said the commissioner adding that there was a severe shortage of medical supplies in the village.
He said that most of infected are children less than ten years of age.
“We have received some emergence medical supplies from Inter-SOS charity, but that cannot cope with the outbreak of the watery diarrhoea” the commissioner Mahmoud Muhumed Abbaas explained.
He called on the federal government of Somalia, the international aid agencies and the regional administration to help contain the disease.
