Mogadishu, Somalia (HOL) - At least three female sanitation workers have been killed after a landmine assembled in dump they were collecting went off, a Somali government official revealed here on Sunday.

Spokesman for the Banadir regional administration Ali Mahmoud Farah told the media that three women were killed on the spot while at least 8 others have been injured in the blast.

“The wounded women including some who are sustaining very critical injuries were rushed to the Medina hospital for treatment” said the spokesman adding that security forces have cordoned off the whole area and are conducting investigations.

He accused Al Shabab militants of being responsible for the deadly blast, although the militants were not yet available for comment.

More than 60 women were either killed or wounded in such blast which rocked Mogadishu’s Maka Al Mukarrama Street since 2010.
