Sports: Somalia Mourns Death Renowned Sports Volunteer

With sadness Somalia has announced the sudden death of one of its most renowned sports personnel Hussein Mohamed Ali (Tarabi) who unexpectedly died in the Norwegian capital of Oslo on Sunday morning.

The late Ali was known for his great role in the promotion of Somali sports and in particularly basketball and athletics. According to the Somali Olympic committee the Late Ali had lent a forceful commitment in the development of Somali sports for over the past 5 decades.

"I have known him for more than 40 years and before he was involved in Somali Sport, he was a member of the Somali Athletics national team and was also former international basketball referee-with his death Somalia has missed a great ports individual," Somali National Olympic committee president Abdullahi Ahmed Tarabi said in a press statement over the unexpected death.

Somali NOC, its member federations and the entire Somali people mourned for him and on the behalf of Somali NOC family.

As soon as the sudden death has been announced the book of condolence has been launched at the Somali NOC head quarters in Mogadishu where several hundred people have signed so far to offer their condolences.

"My father was still strong and fully fit-I talked to him on the phone on Saturday evening and he was not suffering from anything, but we say Alhamdu Lilah and we only pray for him," said the late Ali's older son Abdirahman Hussein Mohamed (Abdow Tarabi) who was reached for comment by the Somali Sports Press Association.

The late Hussein Mohamed Ali has been involved in Somalia's sport for nearly 6o years during which he served as athletics national team member, once as an international basketball referee and finally an administrator. On the 8th of February this year the late Ali had lead a kilometres-long peace match in Mogadishu which was intended to encourage peace and stability in Somali capital where the al-Qaeda-proxy Al-Shabab terrorists were forced out.
